  • dumb-init

A minimal init system for Linux containers

    Project mention: "systemd doesn't follow Unix philosophy " | reddit.com/r/linuxmasterrace | 2022-11-13

At the other extreme, there's dumb-init - it implements the special pid-1 behaviors and acts as a wrapper around the one script you want to run. It's ideal for containers or virtual machines that don't need user logins or more than one service.

  • uwsgi-nginx-flask-docker

Docker image with uWSGI and Nginx for Flask applications in Python running in a single container. Optionally with Alpine Linux.

Project mention: Nginx/Uwsgi/Flask POST times out if body is too large | reddit.com/r/codehunter | 2022-03-28

I'm using a dockerimage based on https://github.com/tiangolo/uwsgi-nginx-flask-docker/tree/master/python3.6. I am running a python app inside that accepts a POST, does some processing on the json body, and returns a simple json response back. A post like this:

  • vrnetlab

    Run virtual routers with docker

Project mention: Network Automation : Simulating network topologies with Containers and gNMI | dev.to | 2022-10-24

Important note : there is 2 versions of vrnetlab, vrnetlab/vrnetlab is not compatiable with ContainerLab, if you want to use ContainerLab, you would have to install hellt/vrnetlab, so the docker image created by one of them cannot be used with the other.

  • runlike

Given an existing docker container, prints the command line necessary to run a copy of it.

Project mention: Self-Hosting Dozens of Web Applications and Services on a Single Server | news.ycombinator.com | 2021-12-31

I had started out the same way, especially if it was a new app and I wasn't familiar with how I really wanted to run it. Some containers expect a fair number of environment variables and multiple mounts. Once I got everything working, I would create a script /svcs with the corresponding docker run command. There's even a cool tool called "runlike" which can create a well formatted command for any running container.

    https://github.com/lavie/runlike/

But I've got those migrated to docker-compose files these days and I try to start with the docker-compose file instead of going directly into testing out docker run commands.

  • vco-api-wan-anomaly-alert

VMware VeloCloud SD-WAN Orchestrator API: Detect and Alert of WAN Anomaly

Project mention: How to view peak max Throughput on velocloud edges | reddit.com/r/Velocloud | 2022-06-30

I was whipping up a quick Python app a while back to call the VCO API for WAN anomaly detection. I was interested in the latency, jitter and packet loss so I was calling a different endpoint i.e. /linkQualityEvent/getLinkQualityEvents/ instead. But the rest of the code that initiates the VCO client object, constructs the authentication header with an API token or obtains a cookie for authentication using user and password, reads the enterpriseName and enterpriseId that are needed for calls to some API endpoints, translates the time to epoch and builds the other parameters in the HTTP body for use in a call, and handles the returning JSON, should be reusable. Feel free to clone it, and modify the endpoint and other parameters your need from https://github.com/kurtcms/vco-api-wan-anomaly-alert.
