  3. quarkdown

🪐 Markdown with superpowers — from ideas to papers, presentations and books.

    Project mention: Quarkdown: A modern Markdown-based typesetting system | news.ycombinator.com | 2025-06-03

Looking at the "mock" document (https://github.com/iamgio/quarkdown/tree/main/mock) which is supposed to be a comprehensive and detailed guide for all visual elements, I don't see ways of getting anything other than basic markdown tables. How do you get merged cells? Cell formatting? Different page numbering for front matter content and the main book? Typst has some nice ways of implementing sophisticated grids and tables. In general, the "simplicity" of markdown seems to be taking away a lot of granular control that people use LaTeX and Typst for.

  4. prog8

high level programming language and compiler targeting 6502 machines such as the C-64 and CommanderX16

Project mention: Show HN: I recreated 90s Mode X demoscene effects in JavaScript and Canvas | news.ycombinator.com | 2025-06-17

I've been thinking about making a fantasy computer/console that uses an emulated 6502 CPU, maybe a bit simplified -- every instruction only taking 1 cycle, for example. You could use all existing tools for the 6502, like the amazing KickAssembler, and there's an interesting high level language called prog8 (https://github.com/irmen/prog8) that's relatively easy to use. Not sure if there's any interest for something like that.
