Email forwarding was terrible because SPF broke and sometimes it took hours for emails to arrive (backlogged) or didn't arrive at all (filtered as spam). This was before Cloudflare, purelymail and forwardemail.net offered a service that didn't break SPF, however, this doesn't apply to you as you are using your domain registrar's email forwarding which, as you have found out for yourself, breaks SPF.
