Captcha solver extension for humans, available for Chrome, Edge and Firefox

  • Project mention: AI bots are now better than humans at decoding CAPTCHAs | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-08-17

The captcha buster extension[^0] along with the service on you computer to move the mouse for you works very very well. It uses google’s TTS (afaik) to transcribe the audio captcha. It’s google verifying another google service works well. I find it very satisfying to not provide my labor to train googles computer vision corpus but instead have the snake bite it’s own tail.

Anyway, I highly recommend buster, I barely notice captchas anymore with it.

  • AdNauseam

AdNauseam: Fight back against advertising surveillance

  • Project mention: Please maintain eye contact for the duration of the ad | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-06-13

That is the reason they went absolutely crazy when adnauseam was introduced, as it used a different approach: it didn't block ads but loaded them in an invisible way, then "clicked" them randomly so that although the user wasn't pestered by ads, advertisers would get completely bogus click through data.

  • Project mention: Firefox private mode now automatically blocks cookie banners for German users | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-03

  • Project mention: Show HN: I made a CLI tool to create web extensions with no build configuration | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-04-30

I’ve been pretty happy with web-ext, I’m curious what abstractions and configurations Extensions.js avoids comparatively. I’m assuming you’ll still need a manifest.json, and it looks like both use npm/package.json for dependencies.

  • keepassxc-browser

    KeePassXC Browser Extension

  • Project mention: GitHub Passkeys are generally available | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-09-25

A password manager can easily implement passkeys just like it implements passwords.

Though last I checked no browser had created an API for extensions to implement the passkey API. KeepassXC's implementation for example has to inject JS into every page to override `window.navigator.credentials` ( https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc-browser/pull/178... ). It works but is brittle, so a proper way through extension API would be nice.

  • read-aloud

An awesome browser extension that reads aloud webpage content with one click

  • Project mention: Ask HN: Any good (free?) TTS article readers? | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-14

I use the Read Aloud Firefox extension to read newspaper articles and the wandering inn stories. Works well for me. In the configuration there are free and premium voices. I enable Google Translate voice and increase the speed a bit.
