The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

C Minus Minus
Forth is available for more platforms than C, and like C, it is usually but not always a compiled language. Because Forth always has an interpreter, and a powerful one, it's more obvious that Forth doesn't have to compile to run, but again, true of C as well: https://gitlab.com/zsaleeba/picoc exists, and it isn't the only one.

say hello to wrench: a c-ish interpreter that actually fits and runs on tiny embedded systems
Author of picoc here: this seems very cool!

[OC] Why did women stop coding? (1970-2020)
Likewise there are interpreters for C.

Picoc comments
It should. See this test file, https://gitlab.com/zsaleeba/picoc/-/blob/master/tests/01_comment.c

Any resources for making interpreters in C ?
If you learn well by looking at code then check out some small projects. Lua is possibly a little too much at this point. Perhaps PicoC?

Is TypeScript a compiled language?
However, this doesn't have to be the case. You could write an interpreter for C and people already have. You could write a compiler for JavaScript to machine code, though I can't find one if such a thing exists.

Kolibri OS: fits on a floppy disk, programmed using interrupts
Doesn't look promissing, sorry. Was looking and looking, but where is the GUI-based OS?
Nowadays we can use LVGL and C++ to write apps, or run script based C code using interpreters like Wrench: https://github.com/jingoro2112/wrench
What I'm missing is an GUI-based OS like Kolibri to launch apps.

wrench: added switch! and scrunched the code down so it fits anywhere!
Project webpage is here: http://northarc.com/wrench/www and code is on github: https://github.com/jingoro2112/wrench

updates to wrench, an embedded-system interpreter that handles weakly-typed c lightning fast with a small memory footprint
oh yeah already did, forgot to mention because I don't really use it: https://github.com/jingoro2112/wrench

I uploaded it: https://github.com/jingoro2112/wrench
