That's just one part of the issue - even after forcefully dropping Linux's caches, WSL has been unable to reclaim the memory back reliably. There has been a recent update that claims to finally fix this.

Yeah. for a while I used validatedev/drop-cache-if-idle. There's also arkane-systems/wsl-drop-cache which seems to be a little newer.

WSL 2, 1.3.10 prerelase brings some goodies
Wow, it seems my https://github.com/validatedev/drop-cache-if-idle took into action. Really happy that the issue is resolved (which is in a way that is not optimal, but works anyway).

Alternative for dropping cache?
There are utilities like these; https://github.com/validatedev/drop-cache-if-idle, and https://github.com/arkane-systems/wsl-drop-cache. But I'm not looking at clearing the cache when the processor is idle. My CPU will never be idle while these programs are running. I know cron is idle for automation, but I'm not always doing large tasks like these, only once in a while.
What are some alternatives?
