wabt VS perspective

https://github.com/WebAssembly/wabt/blob/main/wasm2c/README.... is a straightforward way to take an untrusted application (compiled already to wasm) and turn it into C that you can embed into your application or compile to a linkable DLL. I believe this approach has been used to sandbox untrusted libraries in production by Mozilla: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2021/12/webassembly-and-back-again...

This seems sort of like understanding machine code vs assembly; it's much easier to learn WAT and translate to/from WASM as necessary using the wabt tools [0].

Either way its super cool how simple WebAssembly is, you can really get your hands dirty and understand exactly every detail of how your program runs!

The .wat file can be compiled to a .wasm using wat2wasm which is part of the WebAssembly Toolkit CLI tools:

I don't think you are building an application that will use Native Client technologies How to extract source code from Native Client .nexe file, migrate to WebAssembly? #1864 so that would be superfluous, and frankly, useless in your case.

I'm trying to get a basic Rust webassembly program, then porting it to C via wasm2c. The example works, but when I use wasm-bindgen and analyze it with wasm2wat, I get an import "env". The issue is that in C (wasm2c) it comes out as struct Z_env_instance_t; and I can't instantiate it (as in Z_env_instance_t env; to pass it's address to Z_wasm_client_bg_instantiate.

Why do you want to render to canvas?

Perspective seems to be the most performant html table. It is more focused on extremely fast updates than styling, although it looks good.

Glide is a newcomer that also renders to canvas.

SQL workbench also uses https://perspective.finos.org/ for tables. It's a WASM table library which pairs nicely with duckdb and works well with large tables.

I haven't looked extensively at react-datasheet. It looks like it is trying to build more of a full product than the other data tables.

I have used ag-grid extensively, its an impressive product. Some pieces are a little awkward to use, particularly auto-sizing. But generally ag-grid has thought of most functionality and has a solution. The creator of ag-grid had a great interview on Javascript Jabber [1].

The other serious data table component that I have seen is FinOS Perspective [2]. This is extremely high performance, also more specialized and probably harder to customize. I think Perspective renders to a canvas element from Rust/C++ compiled to WASM (not 100% sure). It is also made for streaming updates.

AG-Grid supports streaming updates... but only in the commercial version.

Eventually the data model for these types of tables becomes tricky. I will be investigating parquet-wasm for my use case. Hit me up if you want to collaborate.

Something like https://github.com/finos/perspective ? We use an OLAP(-y) WASM engine to provide query-ability to our data visualization tool, and doing the calculations in the browser is cheaper and simpler than a server-side database for datasets that fit in browser memory.
