.Webp is the bane of my existence
if you're using linux (which it doesn't seem so) there's also vispdisp https://github.com/jcupitt/vipsdisp which is based on https://github.com/libvips/libvips which will likely take over how images are decoded in the future for everything, at least methodology wise.

Nip2: “a strange combination of a spreadsheet and a photo editor”
Yes, I based it partly on visual programming system that Canon made back in the 90s. I loved the interactive development, but I really disliked that style of visual programming. Lines between boxes seems very hard to reason about, to me.
nip2 tries to do something similar, but using expressions, like a spreadsheet. Unlike graphical plugs and wires, expressions allow things like copy-paste, smart refactoring, referential transparency, and progressive rewriting.
nip2 is ancient now (I finished it way back in 2002, I think). I've started a rewrite for gtk4 -- the image display window is here:
https://github.com/jcupitt/vipsdisp
It's quite fancy -- it has a sparse pyramid of image tiles which get composited to your display by the GPU, and computed asynchronously by a libvips pipeline as you zoom and pan around. You should get a smooth 60 fps even with enormous (eg. 300,000 x 300,000 pixel) images.

what is the best still maintained front end for mpv?
There's a pinned issue on the github page about the state of mpv.net development from January 2023 where the dev says that they started working on a cross-platform successor of mpv.net instead.

Must have programs for a fresh Windows 10 install.
mpv.net - A great open-source lightweight video player based on mpv with support for many formats and extensive configuration. Replaces MPC, VLC, PotPlayer, Windows Media Player, etc. Strongly recommend replacing your current video player with this, since programs like VLC are bloated and can have issues playing back videos and exhibit weird artifacts.

they can't be serious, right?
You can use mpv (I use mpv.net as GUI) since IINA is just based on it.

UltraWide HDR Video Player Setup Guide 21:9 without blackbars
Now on to the second solution. This is divided into 2 sub options. Either stock MPV which doesn't have much of a UI and relies on the user knowing various hotkeys, or MPV.net which has a UI but won't have all the latest updates from mainline MPV. For stock MPV you will need to have 7zip installed.

Music player: A decent media player that I've used is MPV.Net, while not strictly for audio, it can be used to play audio. Alternatively, I use foobar2000.
