understrap VS wprig

A free theme that I like is Understrap (https://understrap.com/). It has single post templates. You can easily customize the templates in a child theme. I believe most themes have single post templates but Understrap's php is easy to modify, along with the html and css.

They got bought out in 2021, not a good idea. e.g. https://github.com/understrap/understrap/issues/1258

I really like Understrap for a starter theme (https://understrap.com/). Using a child theme it's possible to create custom page and post templates, add widget areas, and so forth. It's free, both theme and child theme, and uses Bootstrap 4 framework.

There are out-of-the-box solutions that we can use to create a bare-bones WP theme, that only has a basic skeleton. Some of the places where we can create such themes are Underscores, UnderStrap, and Bones.

I like using Understrap theme as my base (https://understrap.com/). The theme uses Bootstrap 4 as its framework. It's easy to change/add css to get what I want. Creating custom page templates is easy. Adding widget areas is easy. Modifying or adding to the php code isn't hard. The theme is free as is the child theme.

I recommend, https://underscores.me/ or https://understrap.com/ Personally I don't like Elementor or any theme that has a bunch of build in editing tools and such.

What the other commenter said about Roots is the way I've done it in the past, but honestly it was such a ballache. Instead I just have the templates in a github repo, with a db backup running fairly often. I use https://wprig.io/ for my templates, and just commit the template before building and putting it on stg or prod.

WP Rig includes a Gulp build process out of the box. It too had weird dependency errors last I looked, but it looks like there's a new version out now. It uses a PostCSS flow instead of Sass, so YMMV.

Not every project will require (or care) about commit squashing. That said, there are no projects that require not squashing commits. To be on the safe side just give ’em a squash.
