It's not like you can just "merge" pypy into python, they are totally different implementations. CPython is written in C and PyPy is written in RPython which is a subset of the python language that gets compiled, into into an interpreter with JIT support. You can actually write an interpreter for any language using RPython and their toolset, for example Ruby https://github.com/topazproject/topaz

If Wings is dead/dying, which private server should I choose?

Is it feasible to host my own 75 era server with trust support for myself and a few friends to play on? If even possible at all.
instructions how to get your own server set up here https://gitlab.com/ffxiwings/wings/-/wikis/Server-Installation-Guide can use wings repo or a different one in its place. If you want to disable expansions it's just a case of setting the relevant 1 to a 0 in the settings.lua in scripts/global. You can also enable and disable trusts there as well.

Eden July 29th 2021 Update Details
Wings didn't actually write any of the Assault code, it was contributed by a third party contributor from another server. (Here's their commit.) I don't really know if it's based off of KnowOne's code or not, but even if it is, KnowOne makes his stuff public for a reason. Either way, Desmoth isn't a Wings dev, just a contributor.
