Workflow for early research projects in your organization?
At the institute I work at intermediate results are also often not documented. It is sometimes even worse than you described so that the researcher have difficulties to reproduce their own work. Therefore they hired me to develop shournal in order to have at least some safety net to reconstruct command-line work on the shell. Duplicate ZSH process
Powerlevel10k uses gitstatus as the backend behind vcs prompt; gitstatus spawns gitstatusd and zsh. See gitstatus for details. Powerlevel10k may also spawn zsh to perform computation without blocking prompt. To avoid security hazard, these background processes aren't shared by different interactive shells. They terminate automatically when the parent zsh process terminates or runs exec(3).

perf of POSIX/Linux nftw, Rust walkdir and find are comparable, which is what burntsushi also writes as finding.
