You don't need to use CrOS Flex, you can use Brunch, it's another to run ChromeOS but also allows you to use Android Apps on it (Which is the key feature of ChromeOS imo).

Hi, if I understood correctly your need, I have a similar project for linux: https://github.com/sebanc/linuxloops It requires grub as a bootloader as it makes use of the "loopback" module which other bootloaders do not have as far as I know.
