To the Linux users: is it possible to query whether the microphone is disconnected physically?
You could dmesg | grep -i "Camera" but I don't think that would work well for a status bar monitor. I did find this defunct gnome extension that monitors webcam activity. There's also a webcam manager gnome extension but that seems to be a software based solution for disabling the webcam.
