Which robot car kit would be good for the beginners, with jetson nano support?
Looks like the Wavshare of Sparkfun are the only ones in stock. The Fix for the waveshare one is this thread on the github someone figured out: https://github.com/NVIDIA-AI-IOT/jetbot/discussions/377

Robotics Program for students
As a participant, I probably would like to see a Github repository with the things that students might be learning about, and maybe along with other guides and available to all as open-source (e.g. like what Nvidia did with their jetbot).

Help with SLAM and cheap lidar sensor
Jetbot works, when you say it doesn't what do you mean? Forgetting ROS for a moment, can you run the demo Jypiter notebook? "Examples · NVIDIA-AI-IOT/jetbot Wiki · GitHub" https://github.com/NVIDIA-AI-IOT/jetbot/wiki/examples

Using servo's rather than DC motors for the JETbot
You can look at the Jetbot code yourself; it is open-source on GitHub. As I said above you'll have to modify the code to use servos instead of the motor driver board.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing rcj-soccersim and jetbot you can also consider the following projects:
