What ticking time bombs should I be aware of?
If the PS3 is YLOD, I highly recommend getting yourself into reading the syscon before you start really digging in so you don't go on a wild goose chase on exact failure mode. You'll need a 3.3V TTL USB serial interface, if you don't have one - I use one of the many FTDI adapter boards I've accumulated over the years. Google around if you need some more in-depth info, though this thread and this github repo can definitely get you up to speed relatively quick. Oh, and if you don't already have CFW running on it, get it going so you can easily get a decent read on your temps, which will give you a better idea of if it's truly time for it to be de-lidded for the IHS paste breakdown problem.
- Decided To give my ps3 a clean and to check the error codes while I’m there. Is anyone able to tell me what these error codes are? it’s a CECHC02 if that helps

You can have a look here and here for more information on the syscon and here is a quick guide which could get you on the right track. Some common faults to look for are "A0801002", which usually means you've got bad capacitors and "A0403034", which means that your RSX (the gpu) has died, likely due to BGA/Bump defects. You're likely out of luck if your RSX has died, unless you're willing to replace it with a newer RSX (like the 40nm ps3 slim RSX), which is commonly known as the frankenstein mod.

Help me fix my PS3
If you are comfortable doing syscon debugging you have to figure out if you have a JSD-001 or JTP-001 motherboard, find the solder points, then follow https://github.com/db260179/ps3syscon , you'd need a USB TTL and some technical knowledge (knowing some hexadecimal, soldering, etc)

What is the best way to play backups in 2023?
the dev (aldostools) said that in psx-place forums/github issues (ex), specifically for HEN user. i'm using cfw, so sorry i can't tell you about fan problems with HEN. just 35%? me using 45% and 50% for PS2, feel free to imagine that 😁.
