How to generate a great website and reference manual for your R package
That's what I tried to do for my package dupNodes. I found pkgdown, an one-stop solution for generating websites, which even generates the GitHub action for you.

Questions re: writing an R package
If you want to be a bit fancier, and this is entirely optional, use pkgdown (https://pkgdown.r-lib.org/) to parse your code comments and file names to generate a pretty nice docs website.

New to Git, help would be appreciated
And here's an example project on GitHub: https://github.com/r-lib/pkgdown

A fun question
Oh lots of fun stuff. But I'm probably most happy with my docstring package. It's a package that allows users to write documentation like you do in python using docstrings but it also is fun because you can then view the generated help files but that are automatically built from the distribution from within whatever you're using to view help files. The GitHub is here: https://github.com/Dasonk/docstring
What are some alternatives?
When comparing pkgdown and docstring you can also consider the following projects:
R.matlab - R package: R.matlab
rmarkdown - Dynamic Documents for R
