Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

INKY Frame + Raspberry Pi for a simple photo frame -- am I over my head?
The Pimoroni Inky Impression in your link comes with a number of useful example demos, including one (image.py) which shows an image of your choice. So the actual coding for your project is already mostly done :-)

Weather Display (Raspi Zero W + Inky wHAT)
I've been wanting to use my wHAT e-ink display for weather information, but nothing I was finding suited what I wanted. So I wrote up a completely new project using the provided libraries from Pimoroni for the display, while using pyOWM for the OpenWeatherMap integration.

The Quiet Internet Portal -- PaperPi now with plugin support for Crypto Currencies, RSS Feeds, Reddit Quotes and more!
Should be pretty easy! It's built to be flexible and work with different hardware. I just looked at the phat library and it should almost be totally feasible. Adding color support would also be possible, but will require a more work.

Small Crypto Tracker with an e-Ink display to stay updated (and easily track multiple assets' overall value)
Uses a 5.7" 600x448px 7 color ePaper/eInk Raspberry Pi HAT from Pimoroni (quite pricy though) with a Raspberry Pi 3 that periodically creates a screenshot of a web app via CRON and then renders it to the display – their repo makes it quite easy. A refresh takes around ~20-60 seconds.

I thought you guys would like this!
Yes I used their library, it's still actively developed.

I made a little e-ink newspaper that automatically scrapes a new front page every day. Now just have to wait for some good news.
Take a look at the html example in Pimoroni's library: if I remember right this was something to do with getting headless Firefox to screenshot a website, and display that on the InkyImpression. Phil Howard (Pimoroni's softwre guy) tweeted a couple of examples of his personal website on an Impression, so it shouldn't be too hard to get this to work for whichever website you want, surely.

Digital eInk picture frame which automatically shows photos you send via email!
I've seen this guide, and it seems the software comes with few examples and that this is their repo, right?

Two:
https://github.com/Invisible-Computers/image-gallery/blob/ma...
Both of these require rendering the content via an HTTP endpoint and both of these currently still require the content to be proxied through the device backend.
> I can buy an ESP32 e-ink screen and run esphome or any of several other open source projects and put a piece of wood on the front of it, too.
Yes, you can! And if you do this, you have absolutely no need to use my e-paper smart screen.

E-ink is so Retropunk
I am hoping to add third party apps, that's why I have created the API for 3rd party apps:
https://github.com/Invisible-Computers/image-gallery/blob/ma...
But right now, I understand that building an app for my platform is
a) more hassle than just pointing to a URL
b) limited upside, because the audience that you can charge for a subscription isn't very big yet.
However, I think that a good app could generate its own audience (aka drive ppl to buy the displays) and then make money by charging them a small monthly subscription fee.

I'll ship within Europe as soon as I have bootstrapped the 7000 Euro necessary for CE certification.
In terms of openness, there is this:

and this:

I also want to make the esp32 controller itself more hackable in future, but I don't want to promise anything because that's quite a lot of work for me.

Here is the API description:

And here is the sample app:

Admittedly, I am not the greatest technical writer, but I compensate by being pretty responsive. :)

A WiFi color eInk picture frame
This display offers a simple API to build applications for it:
https://shop.invisible-computers.com/products/invisible-cale...
https://github.com/Invisible-Computers/image-gallery/blob/ma...
The API doesn't require any special knowledge about e-paper displays, it just expects an image URL in the correct resolution and will then render it to the display.
You can buy the display off the shelf, and if you are interested in building an app, contact me at [email protected] for a developer account :)
Feel free to go to town on it :)
