I write HTTP services in Go after 13 years (Mat Ryer, 2024)
Not OP, but I design my Go projects with a very similar pattern that I learned from OP's 2018 post.
I think this is a pretty good example of a real-world implementation:
https://github.com/mtlynch/picoshare
Particularly these files:

Looking for selfhosted application to easily share files
gokapi is my goto for this requirement!
- Simple Drag n Drop self hosted with local storage file
-
Looking for self-hosted alternative to imgur, temporary image file hosting
I maintain the Gokapi project, which does everything you mentioned above. For viewing in the webbrowser instead of regular downloads, you will need to use the hotlink URL instead of the regular one.

What Dockered app for secure file sharing?
Sorry for being late to the party. I'm using gokapiand I'm very happy, that works very fine!
-
A file sharing solution that can serve files from the local filesystem?
- Has a very clean looking download page with not much more than a "download" button, because I'd use it to send files to my very non tech-savvy mum (kind of like Gokapi for instance)
- Cloudflare Tunnel is Awesome
- selfhosted wetransfer?
-
Send and Receive (large) files
Yeah, just something to consider. Another good option is Gokapi
- An alternative to imgur and streamable?
-

Gokapi works well for me, although it’s admin upload only (which you may want)
