A simple server for sending and receiving messages in real-time per WebSocket. (Includes a sleek web-ui) (by gotify)

    Project mention: Ntfy.sh – Send push notifications to your phone via PUT/POST | news.ycombinator.com | 2026-06-08

I do use gotify [1] which seems to be pretty much the same, and does the job quite well. Not sure how they compare, does ntfy goes through Google / Apple network or it's directly connected to your server instance?

    Project mention: Best Open Source Monitoring Tools in 2026: 7 Self-Hosted Options Compared | dev.to | 2026-06-13

Gatus is a developer-friendly health monitoring tool written in Go. You define endpoints and health conditions in a YAML file, Gatus checks them on a schedule, and it serves a clean status dashboard. No database required — it stores data in memory (with optional persistence to SQL). It's what you'd build if you wanted a monitoring tool that fits in a single config file.

  8. photoview

Photo gallery for self-hosted personal servers (by photoview)

    Project mention: Photo Management | dev.to | 2026-03-16

Photoview is a lightweight, read-only photo gallery that scans existing folders on your filesystem and presents them through a clean web UI. It generates thumbnails, detects faces, reads EXIF data for map views, and supports multi-user access with per-user media directories. It never moves or modifies your original files.

  9. bitmagnet

A self-hosted BitTorrent indexer, DHT crawler, content classifier and torrent search engine with web UI, GraphQL API and Servarr stack integration.

Project mention: PlayStation Is Deleting 551 Movies from Customers' Accounts | news.ycombinator.com | 2026-06-26

All the most popular stuff is easily available on public trackers. For older/obscure stuff, you can run your own tracker easily enough that scrapes the DHT, although you'll probably burn through an SSD doing it. https://bitmagnet.io is one such self-hosted piece of software.

  10. wanderer

wanderer is a self-hosted trail database. Save your adventures!

  11. OliveTin

OliveTin gives safe and simple access to predefined shell commands from a web interface.

  12. Gokapi

Lightweight selfhosted Firefox Send alternative without public upload. AWS S3 supported.

Project mention: Stop Pulling Unsafe Docker Images | dev.to | 2026-04-29

We looked for a maintained fork but found nothing active enough for production. We switched to Forceu/Gokapi, an actively maintained Firefox-Send-style alternative in Go. Gokapi is more tool than we strictly need. However, rolling our own minimal replacement isn't on the cards. Building one with AI takes a weekend; maintaining it takes years. Those are two different jobs.
