otclient VS tibia-map-data

Wow, amazing stuff. I love Lua, it was how I learned programming as a kid. Coincidently from the same world as the author. Open Tibia.

The author made a custom client (https://github.com/edubart/otclient) for the game that is still very much in active use by thousands of players. He's a very skilled developer.

Great to see AOT typed Lua, I know of the other solutions: Luau, Teal, TypeScriptToLua, Terra, etc., but this one is my favorite so far.

Love the simple compilation to C (and WASM support via Emscripten). Though Terra's JIT is enticing and good replacement for LuaJIT, this is for embedded systems, it's a good replacement for Lua PUC-Rio.

Open Source Engine and a very well edited open source client used for the Tibia OT servers and "Pokemon" RPG's you have seen online in the same style, It is the game r/TibiaMMO for those curious on the original game, never played it as I was a Ultima Online player in my early gaming days but it is obvious to anyone who knows about the game.

Use https://github.com/tibiamaps/tibia-maps-script to convert the client’s marker file to JSON. Merge your JSON with ours (https://github.com/tibiamaps/tibia-map-data/blob/main/data/markers.json), and then use the same tool to convert it back.

Get tibia map https://tibiamaps.io/downloads, also get blessings if you upgrade your gear, you can buy 4 as a free account and it will greatly reduce the chance for your backpack and equipment to drop if you die.

https://tibiamaps.io/downloads just mark tibia map with grid overlay and poi markers but do a backup of your current map or you'll lose all the shit you edited there

I highly recommend installing the fully unlocked map + markers from Tibiamaps.io so you have it readily available.

highly suggest downloading the entirely discovered maps, they obviously help alot with getting around https://tibiamaps.io/downloads

Also, I read above you didn't want to spoil looking at the area for the first time while watching a video. You could install the full maps though, which will have markers for most hunting grounds.

If you're new, highly advisable to download and install mini map with markers so you know where you're going.
