zellij VS helix

Having a common set of tools already set up in different windows or sessions in Tmux or Zellij is obviously an option, but there is a subset of us ( 👋 ) that would rather just have fingertip access to our common tools inside of our editor.

Of my series of PRs, I suspect the third (i.e. https://github.com/zellij-org/zellij/pull/3043) is most likely to have an effect. But if it does it'd only be as a side effect unfortunately - my focus was on fixing lag with splitting of extremely long lines.

From what I saw while making my changes, that area of the code has a bunch more possible optimisations, but it's 'good enough' for me at this point so I'm not planning to continue pulling at the thread right now. For this reason, and because I think the Zellij project is interesting, I currently use a combination of Alacritty and Zellij, as I consider the risk of OSC52 in my use case to be relatively low.

We do support attaching and detaching. And persisting sessions to disk (and indeed, to any serializable form) is being worked on: https://github.com/zellij-org/zellij/issues/575

I could never turn it off completely but I do sometimes use the Acme theme during the day (it's too bright in the evening), which highlights just comments, strings, and errors.

You can use a snippet LSP to work around Helix not having a built-in LSP manager. They're listed in https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/issues/395

I'm probably not the average python programmer.

But I normally just create two terminals (I have a tiling window manager) and in one I open a python file under /tmp/ write my code and execute it in the other terminal.

I would probably use a REPL if it was integrated in my favorite editor ( https://helix-editor.com ).

Wonder how I missed that. I'm getting a re-education in helix today -- thank you! I'll go through `hx --tutor` again before I insert any more feet in my mouth.

Interesting to see how they are gonna approach integrating plugins/extensions system, because this is likely gonna be one of the major factors affecting adoption and ecosystem growth.

Helix devs, for instance, lean towards a Scheme-like implementation. [1]
