Some questions: What tools should I get alongside foundry (I am already thinking of inkarnate or dungeoncraft and wondercraft) (Disclaimer: Why I wont get a cloud server in description). How big of a preformance hit do you take when hosting a server. (I am on a potato and I mean potato).
But, I'm going to tell you that Inkarnate makes absolutely beautiful maps. Once you get used to the software you get pretty fast, and it looks so nice. The downside is drawing walls in Foundry instead of getting them imported. If you go this route, use the Monk's Wall Enhancements module. One of its features is freehand wall drawing. It is an absolute game changer.

Sell me on landing pages. Do players actually use them?
I created some tokens representing their carriage's cargo compartment and made it interactable with Item Piles. So I can give them access to their stuff when I want them to and just hide it if not.

Handy 5e Modules List
FoundryVTT-ItemPiles - Have you ever wished you could represent items in your scenes? A pile of items, something to interact with - or perhaps chests whose appearance changes depending on what happens to it, whether it's open, closed, full, or empty. Do you want an easy way to split loot between players? Do you want easy to use merchants with great UIs?
-
Is there a way to allow item piles to split currency more than 4 ways?
If that still doesn't resolve it, you can ask about the issue on IronMonk's Discord or put in an issue on the Github page.

Loot Sheet NPC 5e for V10?
I know Item Piles is still in (very) active development. The author definitely intends to port it to v10, but hasn't done so yet.

Beginner guides/module tips
Item Piles allows you to drop items on the ground, on the canvas. You can create chests (locked or unlocked), and it also allows players to trade with each other.
-
[D&D5e] Monk's Active Tile Triggers - Change permission on actor
I would suggest to use the Item Piles to make the chest and use your active tiles config to make the chest visible when they pass the check so you dont need to mess with permissions.
-
Loot Sheet NPC 5e: Bag of Holding and Looting Without Token
For trading between players I would suggest Item Piles, its main feature is to make npc lootable and easily drag items on the map to make lootable piles but it adds also an usefull trade between players feature
