Drive system for a 6-DoF robot with simple ROS compatibility?
The CubeMars/T-Motor AK60-6 V1.1 looks like an ideal fit. Bit nervous since I have no experience with them but ran across a prebuilt library for interfacing which makes me more comfortable: https://github.com/dfki-ric-underactuated-lab/mini-cheetah-tmotor-python-can

Does anyone know any good open source project to optimize?
numpy-quaternion is a neat little C extension for Python that adds support for quaternions to NumPy. I haven't seen it use SIMD or GPGPU in a quick look through its source.

Extending Numpy: I thought this would be simple
Fortunately, the "quaternion" component of the project has gone on, in two incarnations. One is https://github.com/moble/quaternion/, which continues to use the dtype approach. The other is https://github.com/moble/quaternionic/, which instead creates a subclass of ndarray.
