Is Mpv worth it even if you don't use scripts?
try mpv.net if you are on windows, it's based on mpv but gives you enough options to not feel lost, mpv-easy player is also another excellent option if you want eye candy and extra skins.

Yeah I agree. I've actually switched now to MPV-EASY Player. With that one I don't have the download issue in edge.
