JellyCon - Behaves more like a standard Kodi streaming addon. Media is accessed primarily by going through the Add-ons -> JellyCon menu, however you can set up menu options to link to it and show info on the home screen. It also allows easier switching between multiple Jellyfin servers or users since it doesn't have to rely on syncing all the metadata down. By not having metadata synced, it has to request info from the server which can take a bit more time when you're browsing (typically only a second or two in my testing), but you don't have to wait for the database to sync or keep it up to date.

This sounds familiar to something reported here. Right now my best guess is the skin is populating before the addon is fully loaded and then doesn't get updates, but I haven't had a chance to confirm that yet.

If you want to replicate this, try Kodi plus the Jellyfin Kodi addon.

In the specific context of the jellyfin for kodi plugin :

JellyCon appears to work just fine. Jellyfin for Kodi is suffering from an upstream Python bug if you're running Python 3.11.0 that causes it to crash, but there's nothing we can do until they push updates out. issue.

There appears to be some incompatibility with the AndroidTV (and maybe normal Android?) build of Kodi specifically. Haven't tracked down what it is yet, as I kinda need users to do the debugging for me due me not having the relevant hardware myself. Jellyfin-Kodi - "thick" Kodi addon. syncs metadata from the JF server into Kodi's local database for a native Kodi feel.

It happens in native mode as well. The issue has been reported here https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-kodi/issues/571 and I don't see it being resolved any time soon but I guess using external players with kodi is a niche thing so that's understandable.
