Is there a linux alternative to materialze?
Looks similar to Material Maker that works on Linux. https://github.com/RodZill4/material-maker

Is it viable to use Godot to develop a Tool?
Material Maker for example, it's shader-based and I think it makes sense to use Godot. I also made shader-making tool, it's meant for games and if I use Godot that should make it integrate well.

3D Asset Pipeline for Godot?
Procedural materials are either created in the Game engine directly, or with Tools like Adobe Substance Designer or Material Maker (free and open source, made with Godot). Material Maker exports directly to the Godot ready format .tres. Check out u/Arnklit youtube channel for a short playlist on Material Maker. If texture painting in Blender is too cumbersome for you, most game artists probably would use Adobes Substance Painter for texture painting. ArmorPaint is a Substance Painter alternative you can built yourself from source if you want to use it for free.

Hello! I want to contribute to an open source tool project for Godot. Which one would you recommend?
Standalone applications: MaterialMaker, Pixelorama, Lorien (disclaimer: i'm the author)

So many times...
There is https://github.com/RodZill4/material-maker which uses it for GUI so why not?

Can't get emission to work
You can get a fixed build here (you'll have to be logged in on Github): https://github.com/RodZill4/material-maker/actions/runs/756532188

Is making this type of software feasible in Godot? (complex non game development)
Material Maker (Procedural Material Authoring)

I tried to make an improved tiler (thanks to u/RodZill4 for patience and help).
Like Scale X and Scale Y in your case, some parameters could be transformed into inputs "out of the box" by Material Maker per user request. I made a proposal to to this https://github.com/RodZill4/material-maker/issues/178

Anyone else not excited about Godot?
- 2D polygons are supported at the same level as primitives and can be used as collision https://github.com/SirRamEsq/SmartShape2D here is a popular plugin that mimics unity spriteshapes.
-
who's the god that made this? how do you do this in godot?
For smooth 2D level design, look into SmartShape2D.

Finally my suspension is working lol (Ignore the beautiful textures)
It's an add-on named "smartshape2d", very handy https://github.com/SirRamEsq/SmartShape2D
- What Godot plugins do you find useful?
-
move_slide_with_snap works superb (3.5)
Amazing plugin: https://github.com/SirRamEsq/SmartShape2D for curved terrain.
-
How do I make environments that AREN"T based on tiles?
yes there is, u/Nkzar already linked you to the SmartShape2D plugin.
-
I need help with EditorSpatialGizmo. Or something.
Instead of making your own tools, the SmartShape2D plugin might be your thing. It's 2D, but since you're only mentioning planes a 2D tool might work for you.
-
Do I even have to use tilemaps to make the environnement of my 2D game?
I started out using tilemaps for that reason. It's much quicker and easier to start prototyping levels. I now use the SmartShape2D addon for the vast majority of my terrain. I would suggest watching a tutorial about it if you decide to try it out. It's a very powerful tool but can be quite daunting/confusing at first. As the previous user said you can use a lot of different nodes though so just try experimenting.
- does anyone else struggle trying to use Tilemap?
