AzerothCore: Self-Hosted World of Warcraft 3.3.5a Server
I'm not too familiar with CMaNGOS, but my understanding is that the original MaNGOS is the ancestor of AzerothCore (as well as most other C++ WoW emulators).
The primary differences that come to mind between CMaNGOS and AC are AC's larger and more active community, AC's module system, and CMaNGOS has a relatively good bot (as in, non-human players) system [0].
As an aside, AC does have a playerbots module [1], but my understanding is that it doesn't have the same polish as CMaNGOS's. It's also distributed as a patch to the upstream AC repo instead of a standard AC module, so that can be a pain for some as well.

2009scape – Runescape in 2009
Cool, I didn't realize Runescape private servers were a thing still.
I contribute to AzerothCore[0] pretty regularly. There's a lot of improvements that could be made, but it's overall fun and the majority of people who frequent their Discord are friendly enough.

Battle.net, Wow, Diablo IV Affected by DDoS Attack
Since Blizzard closed WoW in China, I found https://www.azerothcore.org/. They have a simple docker setup tutorial. I’ve been playing for a month and it’s been very interesting because they only support the English client. I’ve also learned a lot of English and currently feel great exploring the whole world alone.

Recommendation for a Great 3.3.5(Wotlk) Single Player Experience?
I don't have any experience with running a server, but maybe AzerothCore could be an option? From what I can tell it is actively being worked on with the help of ChromieCraft.
What are some alternatives?
