Getting a new computer
What I learned over the past months: - Minecraft 1.16.5 is running flawless. This is due to the state of the game and the associated Java version. - 1.12 and older modpacks is a hit and miss. This is because this older Minecraft version is using the older Java Version 8 instead of Java 11 or above - 1.18 runs stable but I get lower frame rate. This is due to changes introduced to the game and is not limited to Apple. You’ll see the same on Windows. - MultiMC is going to be your favourite launcher. - You’ll have to install the proper Java version made for Apple M1. This is not a problem. You just need to know as it’s not obvious. - Apple silicon requires a little hack: https://github.com/yusefnapora/m1-multimc-hack

Just got a new M1 Macbook air, what is this error and how can I fix it?
In any case, the easiest way is using one of the many community-maintained M1 launchers like ManyMC. I personally use m1-multimc-hack with updated LWJGL.

Minecraft for arm
Completely native isn’t available for now. But take a look at this: https://github.com/yusefnapora/m1-multimc-hack

Minecraft of Macbook Pro
I recommend installing Sodium (the fabric mod) to improve FPS greatly. You'll probably have to use something like this https://github.com/yusefnapora/m1-multimc-hack in order to get it to run natively on your M1 chip. See this guide on this subreddit for more information: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/lfcaer/minecraft_running_native_on_m1_sodium_mod_insane/

Minecraft on Apple Silicon
Please give us a native port of Minecraft Java Edition for Apple Silicon. The game runs through Rosetta 2, but with performance hits and no guarantee it will be supported forever. It has already been proven that Minecraft can be run natively on Apple Silicon using a recompiled LWJGL using the excellent MultiMC Hack. I have personally tested this using Oracle JDK 17 which is natively available for Apple Silicon. Given this information, it is time an official launcher is released for Apple Silicon.

Minecraft Performance on M1
You should consider using this guide to get Minecraft running natively. You can also add the sodium mod. The performance difference is quite insane as seen here.

Modded Minecraft on new Apple M1 Chips?
Temporarily borrowing an m1 mac mini and it runs botania + create + quark on 1.16 pretty decently even when there is quite a bit going on (90-120fps at 2100p). Running on native java following instructions from here: https://github.com/0xQSL/m1-multimc-hack/tree/fix-forge. this is a fork of the repo that changes a thing so that forge works too (otherwise it will crash), make sure when cloning to specify the correct repo (with 0xQSL in the link), and run "git checkout fix-forge" to switch to the branch with the change. I recommend doing this for playing with retina resolutions because performance in rosetta was not really good enough to play at 2100p in a world with a decent amount of stuff going on. if you want to run in rosetta anyway you still have to get the amazon corretto build of jdk 8 because that doesn't have the bug that makes forge crash. but you can run that through the vanilla launcher and dont need to clone the repo or use multimc
