Have an idea involving micropayments? It's possible. Here's how
If you take a look at the free, open source, off-the-shelf software LNBits (lnbits.com) there is no programming needed. You can even just pay $12/mo to https://voltage.cloud and have it all hosted in the cloud and is set up in <90 seconds. All the things I mentioned in the OP have a pretty UI to configure it all.

2.) Set up your own self-hosted install of https://lnbits.com (or use cloud hosted version at https://voltage.cloud for ~$10 USD/mo).

Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken?
> I think you make an interesting point about micro payments. Micro payments could be an avenue for crypto to actually achieve some legitimacy and usefulness.
I've been testing out the Lightning Network (Layer 2 of BTC) recently and it seems that the future has arrived. I can accept micropayments in BTC over LN, which get immediately converted to dollars and deposited to a bank account in USD. All for ~$0.01 fee per transaction. Here's how:
1.) Open an account at https://strike.me. This app is very similar to CashApp, but supports getting paid on the Lightning Network. I believe CashApp is also working on this functionality.
2.) Set up your own self-hosted install of https://lnbits.com (or use cloud hosted version at https://voltage.cloud for ~$10 USD/mo).
3.) Connect LNBits to Strike.
4.) Set up a Point of Sale (or paywall, or event tickets, or tip jar, or anything else) on LNBits.
5.) Collect a payment in LNBits.
6.) That BTC is immediately forwarded to Strike, converted to USD and available for withdrawal to your bank account.
Following these steps you can collect micropayments in USD for next-to-nothing fees and no exposure to the volatility of BTC.

There's a draft pull request in LNbits for this purpose, and an accompanying article that describes the process of initializing the card. So the tools are still in the process of being built for home use atm.

Reading about people switching to Treznor, but why is that any more secure—seems like malicious firmware can reveal private key on any hardware device?
I’m checking out Specter Desktop in my Raspiblitz Lightning node for BTC. The node runs Core as well, but the UI is much nicer in Specter, which is for Multi Sig transactions using any hardware wallet. Doesn’t help with any other coin, though. First Pi project ever, and it’s for science… BTC isn’t my favorite crypto, but it deserves respect. I need to see for myself the scaling possibilities of Lightning first hand. You earn small fees for routing so it should at least break even on power. https://github.com/rootzoll/raspiblitz
