Yes, you should be able to use nomination pools with Ledger on both Polkadot as well as Kusama if you have the XL version of the app.

There are custodial services that offer staking. They may allow earning rewards with a lower minimum stake. Again, do your own research, as some are only meant for non-Ledger accounts. Their staking process may require you to issue an extrinsic that Ledger doesn't support. You can find the list of extrinsics supported in the Polkadot Ledger app here.

Ledger Live exposes limited functionality. You could do a lot more with the Polkadot app (https://github.com/Zondax/ledger-polkadot) on your Ledger device by connecting it to Polkadot JS UI

I’m pretty sure the Polkadot app for Ledger was developed by Zondax and is hosted on GitHub (if you open the app on ledger you will see this referenced). Not much activity on the dev branch recently, and no mention of this in their issues.

Your old Nano S won't work with the latest Ledger Live and is probably too old to update in one shot for the new firmware. You may need to grab an old version of Ledger Live from github: https://github.com/LedgerHQ/ledger-live-desktop/releases

Uninstall the updated version and install older 2.42.0 version. https://github.com/LedgerHQ/ledger-live-desktop/releases
