Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Is Latex Hard to Edit?
Yes, I do agree that LaTeX compile logs can make debugging difficult. And that's why you rely on other tools to parse the logs. Almost all the popular LaTeX editors can do this just fine. There are also standalone utilities like latexrun and pplatex that do an amazing job in formatting LaTeX error output.

I know Metropolis is a common example of a decent Beamer template, but there are other Beamer examples that look good and just aren't as nicely packaged for use. My current favorite is here: https://github.com/mossr/julia-tufte-beamer

Does anyone know the name if this (minted/pygments) color scheme?
The slides seems to be based on the Metropolis theme. I have never used to display code so I don't know if it includes the highlighting on the code snippets or you need to build it from there.
