Nodebox: A Node.js runtime that runs in any browser
Nodebox is built on Python (Nodebox1 = Python on Mac, Nodebox 3 = Jython) - there are new Nodeboxes on other tech.
Shoebot is not dead (even if it is getting a bit old), currently working on a new release to sort out a bunch of the tech debt.

For those into Nodebox1, on the Mac, Karsten's fork is active.

Plot device is a fork that went in a different direction

Is there an easier way to use applescript?
I'm working on creating sort of a wrapper for the UI elements (dialogs, alerts, notifications) of applescript with Python. Check it out: https://github.com/ninest/aquaui

Things Applescript Should Have
The one really agree with is the editor, and having to learn a new language for simple scripting. For that reason, I'm working on creating a wrapper for AppleScript with Python https://github.com/ninest/aquaui, if you're interested. With this, I can use AppleScript for input/output by showing dialogs and notifications while also leveraging the power of Python and its many libraries
What are some alternatives?
plotdevice - Create 2D graphics on the Mac with Python code
bear-backlinks - Automated backlinks for notes in Bear.app, on macOS.
AutoDMG - Create deployable system images from OS X installer
JXA-Cookbook - Cookbook for JavaScript for Automation in Mac OS X Yosemite
generative-art - Generative art experiments
camply - camply, the campsite finder ⛺️ - a tool to find campsites at sold out campgrounds through sites like recreation.gov
shoebot - Easy vector graphics with Python
notebook-export-manager - Manage HTML and ENEX exports from Evernote on macOS
display_manager - An open-source Python library which can modify your Mac's display settings manually or automatically.
