jellyfin-mpv-shim VS jellyfin-media-player

You could try Jellyfin-MPV-Shim but it’s not much of a UI and I don’t know if the playback will be any different from Jellyfin Media Player. Same thing about playback goes for JellyPlayer.

You mean something better than Jellyfin Media Player? It works pretty great for me on my Mac. Some people like Jellyfin-MPV-Shim but I don’t think it’s much of a UI.

As others have said, MPV Shim is another option on PC that also uses the same player as JMP. It has more options too that you use for the player like enabling shaders, video aspect ratio changes, volume gain changes, and so forth. Though it works as a hidden player that only appears when you cast to it.

I'm wondering if there is a bug in the Jellyfin server that is causing remote control connections to get lost. I had to put some really aggressive self-healing logic into MPV Shim to get it to stay connected reliably. This doesn't exist in web so JMP may suffer these reliability issues.

I use Jellyfin MPV Shim with uosc and thumbfast.

I use Kodi with the Jellyfin for Kodi Addon and never have this problem on AndroidTV. I’m surprised you get this issue on a Mac, though. Is that when using a browser or when using Jellyfin Media Player?

Does this problem still occur in Jellyfin Media Player? I recommend using this instead of a browser.

I'd give Jellyfin Media Player a try, it supports pretty much all the formats and also supports Jellyscrub and IntroSkipper. It is what I personally use, if you have hardware transcoding is not as big of an issue, but if you don't it either eats up your CPU or is unplayable

On what device/client are you trying to watch it on? Try it on Jellyfin Media Player on your computer. Does it work then? It should direct play.

Just to be sure, if you play the movie in something like MPV or VLC on your computer, do those same scenes exhibit this color banding? How about in Jellyfin Media Player?

There are clients you can use to direct play such as Jellyfin Media Player or Kodi with the Jellyfin for Kodi Addon or JellyCon Addon. I watch a lot of anime with various subtitle formats using Kodi on an Amazon FireStick and I never have to transcode.
