Any useful apps on F-droid ?
I make Irregular Expressions keyboard. It is for occasions when regular typing is not enough. The user base is small but passionate, so I would like to mention it; some of you might enjoy it.

Signal and Android's Incognito Keyboard
No experience with it but it has a refreshing privacy policy, is open-source, and on F-Droid. Looks like a solid option.

Almost lost my phone...looking for foss solutions
Traccar also has client apps you can use to send data. https://www.traccar.org/client/ The whole thing is easy to set-up selfhosted as well.

Google maps tracking alternative
I don't think there is or can be any alternative. Sure, there are apps like Traccar but they all use a background service to actively ask for a location periodically, which eats battery and gets killed by the OS quite often. Google can do it because it has special permissions and collects the location basically as a by-product of other activity on the phone.
