There's a utility called PlayCover in development that aims to work around this, but not all iOS app work for some reason, hopefully that keeps improving.

If your friends have M1 macs they can try playing through PlayCover. This will sideload IOS version and allow to map keyboard/mouse to touch controls (all though I recommend using ps4 controller).

Key Mapper itself is FLOSS (Free/Libre open-source software), the source code is here. Another possibility is Volta, but Key Mapper is better.

I really do need to trigger these bindings programmatically: I'm using bash's keybinding functionality to supplement an app called Key Mapper which is no longer being actively developed. I'm using Key Mapper to execute shell scripts in Termux. These shell scripts contain variations of the printf command from above which trigger my bash keybindings.

Using Key Mapper (https://github.com/keymapperorg/KeyMapper) (https://docs.keymapper.club/user-guide/adb-permissions/), I have assigned camera button + # button to lunch the keikai launcher, and I had to reassigned the camera button to open the camera.

It's a very versatile tool, can be handy even if you don't have a keyboard.

I don't know if it's the same with the onn, but with the google device you can use the Key Mapper app.

I never got much out of Easer, but I did come across Key Mapper, which lets you assign actions to button presses. I set up a mapping so that a double-click on volume down will activate the flashlight. Not quite as cool, but it's a pretty decent alternative.
