Project mention: SerenityOS is a love letter to '90s user interfaces | news.ycombinator.com | 2025-04-22
I have to use a Mac for work and it drives me crazy. I disabled everything I could find, enabled reduced motion preferences or whatever it's called and still get some animations.
My "solution" is to use Aerospace [0], which reimplements window management. That's the only way I found to not have animations. Unfortunately i still feel some delay when switching windows compared to i3wm/sway in Linux.

> (2019 Intel MBP)
I used to have one of these and recently got an M1 Max machine - the performance boost is seriously incredible.
The throttling on those late-game intel macs is hardcore - at one point I downloaded Hot[1], which is a menu bar app that shows you when you're being throttled. It was literally all the time that the system was slowing itself down due to heat. I eventually just uninstalled it because it was a constant source of frustration to know I was only ever getting 50% performance out of my expensive dev laptop.

Project mention: The Mira Pro Color is Boox's first color E Ink monitor | news.ycombinator.com | 2025-04-30Iβve been using a Bigme B251 [0] (likely the exact same panel) for about 9 months now. I recommend Amazon simply due to return policy; these can come with bad panels. They donβt notably fail early if the panel is fine when you get it.
Refresh is slow, colors are low saturation, and there is ghosting.
Itβs also an absolute JOY to use for anything text related once you get past those differences.
For those on MacOS stillcolor [1] is an absolute MUST.
Iβm open to any questions!
