hello-express VS flyctl

Postmarks runs on Glitch - or, anywhere else you can stand up a Node.js / Express app. Personally I love Glitch, and I've been using it for many years now for hosting demos and trying out different projects - in fact, my main links page runs on Glitch. The Postmarks developer Casey Kolderup works there, and Casey has made it really straightforward to remix directly on Glitch, or import from GitHub there or to another service of your choice - it has very few dependencies.

So kind of like https://glitch.com/ and https://inbrowser.app/ but somehow productized, has a bitcoin donation button, and uses iframes(??). Feels pretty slow too, but that might just be the HN hug of death.

The Glitch team has been doing some gardening of our own over the past few weeks: the latest addition to our new homepage is our new weekly feature, “App of the Week.” As I type this, we’re featuring a classic: Dan Reeves’ Nasa logo generator. Our team’s been busy too; in case you missed it, we launched a new Glitch homepage, created new starter apps to celebrate Apple’s expanding support for progressive web apps and open VR/XR, and made huge progress in letting the Glitch community tap into all of Fastly’s features for supercharging your apps – we’ll be sharing more about this very soon!

I'm making a custom heardle using the 'zayn-heardle' template on https://glitch.com. The search-bar for searching for songs is not working. It doesn't show any options to pick a song.

I've implemented the package https://pub.dev/packages/sign_in_with_apple successfully both for iOS and Android devices (my back-end is glitch.com, copied from the package's instructions).

To begin visit fly.io to create an account. Next install flyctl a command line tool for creating and deploying fly apps. macOS

For frontend deployment, I used Netlify (for the generous free package) and the recommended fly.io for server + database (also cheap package).

You can learn more about fly.io and tigris, we will need to create an account on both platforms for this project regardless. Anyway with the theory out of the way let's get started in the next section as we create our accounts and start building the app.

Fly.io is easy to use, works well for small projects or personal apps. It's a great way to make sure your app runs smoothly for people no matter where they are.

In this post, we'll start from scratch, running FerretDB locally via Docker, trying out the connection with mongosh and the MongoDB Node.js client, and finally deploy FerretDB to Fly.io for a production ready set up.

Fly is a cloud platform that focuses on global edge computing. Fly specializes in high-performance hosting and provides a global network of edge locations. Fly is known for its scalability and performance optimizations.

But videototextai.com is built using NextJS + Firebase auth + Firestore and a backend deployed at fly.io . Fly makes it really easy to deploy docker containers and that is IMO the fastest way to develop, you can setup a local setup

Alternatives explored: * northflank: While running the wrk test, requests were taking 3-7 seconds. Couldn't repeat Heroku's phenomenon of "400ms-800ms" during such a load test. * fly.io: Reliability: It’s Not Great * render.com: I remember the time when indiehackers.com was down because of an outage on Render, not sure if it's worth trusting.
