Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

I think it would be most productive to go over the documentation and clarify it where feel it's needed. GitHub allows you to submit PR's that we can discuss together.

theres some third parties that give you an API directly I believe. Firefly III lists salt edge and nordigen.

You can easily import data into Firefly III using their data importer[0] and Nordigen API or Spectre (usage is explained in [0]). Doing so automatically is just a matter of running a cron job
