efly VS archinstall

So I created a Python script efly-dd , which does exactly that.

I have overhauled the efly project to include a rom image, that works similar to a traditional iso image. All packages and config files are placed on a read-only squashfs. And via overlayfs, changes are written to a tmpfs and kept until you reboot or power down.

i preserved the old script here and it still works just fine. no idea why they don't allow this anymore.

Creating the disk image yourself is very easy, if you are running an Arch Linux system. How to do that is explained on github.

For my efly live system project I created a little writeup on how to correctly place a raw disk image on a USB stick, so that you can boot an operating system from the stick. It is very newbie-friendly but also touches on some advanced subjects like block devices and hardware firmware.

i am currently working on a linux live system and chose to ship it with chromium preinstalled. however, i talked to a bunch of people and a lot of them actually prefer firefox. so to get some actual data, i decided to make a poll.

modern desktop systems quite often have 64GB of ram or more available. but the efly live system (repo here) had a very conservative restriction of just 256MB for the copy-on-write virtual file system.

Archinstall (https://github.com/Torxed/archinstall) has been present in the official Arch package sources for some time. This should shorten the installation time. Just as a hint. :-)

However, the installation of vanilla Arch is basically not difficult either. And for some time now, archinstall has been included in the official package sources, which can simplify the installation.

That's for you to decide. Basically, the installation of Arch consists to a large extent only of executing the commands mentioned in the official instructions. In addition, Archinstall (https://github.com/Torxed/archinstall) has recently been added to the official package sources which makes installation simpler.

Seems like it is designed to do both equally well. Has a guided installer and functions as a python library for installing arch and whatnot programmatically. https://github.com/Torxed/archinstall

Just to inform, a fix has been merged: PR #84: reworked kde.py to use sddm instead of hacking xinitrc and will be in v2.1.1 this weekend :) Thanks for reporting and pointing this out!
