Recording and downloading the output of an audiocontext.
WebAudio frameworks likely provide you with this feature but it sounds like OP wants to roll his own. For one of my apps I have adapted recorder js by Matt Diamond to operate in a worker, basic wrapper is here the worker file can be found relative to this file.
- A browser based music tracker supporting MIDI hardware I made in vue.js, it's also fully open source.

A browser based music maker I have been building for the past years and recently introduced support for hardware MIDI controllers. The whole thing is also open source.

Why hasn't there been any real competition or true alternatives to the OP-1 in 11 years?
It has many quirks and some performance issues (low note resolution), but I made a web app that allows you to record MIDI notes on a tape since I wanted the same UX for my other synths: https://mortenson.coffee/midi-tape/
- midi-tape now has unlimited tracks for tape mode style recording of external MIDI devices

midi-tape - An OP-1 inspired tape recording software for external MIDI devices
Hi all - I saw someone else post about Web MIDI so I figured people might be interested in this too. I made a 4-track MIDI tape recorder - basically something really simple you can use to compose full songs using one MIDI input and 4 MIDI outputs. I use it with my Roland MC-101 and set each output to a channel, as an alternative to sequencer-style composition. Check out the user guide for the keyboard commands and let me know what you think! https://github.com/mortenson/midi-tape
