A modern alternative to DRF to build apis in Django is django-ninja. It is very simple to use and it takes advantage of the Pydantic schemas for validation and provides an auto-generated api doc. It is less complex than DRF. I recently made a template repo using this stack. It includes Django forms support in the Vuejs frontend. The Django config was made using django-vitevue that can help configuring a Vitejs frontend quickly.
  • Django-vitevue: configure a Vitejs frontend for Django
    4 projects | /r/django | 10 Feb 2022
The django-vitevue package helps configuring a Vitejs frontend for Django. It's main feature is a management command to configure a Vitejs app to compile to Django templates and static files. It handles single page apps as well as partial Django templates and works with existing frontends

Good point. I would add that sometimes having a modern spa dev env makes sense, to take advantage of major improvements in frontend stacks like Typescript or hot module reload servers like Vitejs, and use drf or graphql on the Django backend side. Btw I made a package to help configuring a Vitejs frontend to compile to Django templates, if anyone interested by this approach: django-vitevue
  • Is it possible to have just a part of Django pages use component based frontent framework?
    4 projects | /r/django | 19 Sep 2021
You could be interested by django-vitevue if you want to use Vitejs for your frontend. This packages helps generating a Vitejs configuration to compile your modern components based frontend app to a Django template and static files. It can compile to a partial template that can be included in your pages like any other template. Note: this package has just been rewritten and released, it is brain new

I started with petite-vue because Vue seemed too large of a file size for my simple projects. Wanting to use Vue but after reading some of the comments, I might go with Svelte.

I recommend trying https://github.com/vuejs/petite-vue as a minimalist library for declarative reactive view/model data binding, it could at least halve the code used for generating view

Maybe I’ve spent 5 days on and off researching this. I was able to recreate it perfectly using petite-vue https://github.com/vuejs/petite-vue which is nice, but it does not have all the features I need in Vue3

“petite-vue is indeed intended to fill the gap for progressive enhancement cases where Vue 3 would be too heavy-handed.

It is not abandoned, but rather it is considered "done" because the scope is well defined. I don't think it needs more features (as that would defeat the purpose of being lean and minimal). If you find yourself needing more than what petite-vue provides, you can either go up to Vue proper, or try https://alpinejs.dev/.

That said, I should update the README to indicate this more clearly.”

As another alternative, you could look at petite-vue if you just want to sprinkle from Vue-like components throughout your site... Doesn't have the full force of vue, but maybe it's enough.
