Alexandria: A minimalistic cross-platform eBook reader
mupdf is the mupdf of epub; it supports epub and other formats beyond pdf¹. When I've had really large files I've used mupdf to read them a few times, as it seems to be far better at handling them than other tools.

Show HN: I am building a new Python library to read/write PDF files
I think you might mean PyMuPDF (https://github.com/pymupdf/PyMuPDF), a Python library built on top of the MuPDF C library (https://mupdf.com/).
PyMuPDF and MuPDF are both available under dual open source AGPL and commercial licenses. They have been around for many years and are under continual development.
[Disclaimer, i work for Artifex, who wrote MuPDF and recently acquired PyMuPDF.]

How to Read Thread Dumps – easily & efficiently
Case Study: In a real-world incident, an application experienced a deadlock due to a bug in the Apache PDFBox library. The problem arose when two threads acquired locks in opposite orders, resulting in a deadlock that caused the application to hang. To learn more about this case and how the deadlock was resolved, check out Troubleshooting Deadlock in an Apache Open-Source Library.

How I archived 100 million PDF documents... (Part 1)
So, when I started to view the documents, a lot of them simply failed to open. I had to look around for a library that could verify PDF documents. I had some experience with PDFBox in the past, so it seemed to be a good go-to solution. It had no way to verify documents by default, but it could open and parse them and that was enough to filter out the incorrect ones. It felt a little bit strange just to read the whole PDF into the memory to verify if it is correct or not, but hey I needed a simple fix for now and it worked really well.
