Where to get on chain data?
I wrote a sql layer in python to run on your node called sqlChain. If you're interested in building something like these sites then you can play with this and add modules on top. It's open source and fairly efficient (can store the blockchain in less space than a node), but requires a good system with fast SSD to be viable.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing blockchain-certificates and sqlchain you can also consider the following projects:
rotki - A portfolio tracking, analytics, accounting and management application that protects your privacy
bitcoin-etl - ETL scripts for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dash, Zcash, Doge, Bitcoin Cash. Available in Google BigQuery https://goo.gl/oY5BCQ
walletlib - Unified interface to work with cryptocurrency wallet.dat, .wallet, .key files. Can automatically attempt to figure out what type of coin a .dat wallet contains via its prefix.
python-slip39 - Generate Ethereum, Bitcoin, etc. account seed and backup Mnemonics in SLIP-39 format (Trezor & Ledger compatible), with details in printable PDF format. Optionally, also print encrypted JSON and BIP-38 paper wallets.
