Can one use Banano as a gift card coin system?
If you run a Banano node it contains an API to manage wallets. https://github.com/BananoCoin/banano/wiki/Running-a-Docker-Bananode Alternatively if you don't want to run a node and are familliar with JavaScript you can use BananoJS https://github.com/BananoCoin/bananojs BananoJS will still require a node endpoint to publish blocks but you can find some public ones here: https://public.banano.live

BanBucket Faucet - Change your rep to earn more!
To actually give out the banano, you use your private key to sign a send block (which contains information of your account, your new amount and the destination and some other info). You can take a look at an example JSON request here. You would send a standard POST request to a node. GoBanano provided the sufficient framework for creating the blocks and balances but didn't have a wrapper for the RPC calls. Libraries such as bananojs or bananopy provide wrappers and are easier to setup/use. prussia dev's opensource banano faucet also contains a lot of the logic you may need to setup a faucet. Hope this helps!

just an opinion
Desktop installable: https://github.com/derfarctor/dagchat Banano NFT interfaces are being worked on, join Banano discord to get whitelisted for the beta run of minting (most data is stored on ipfs in two files) which is called upon by the viewing UIs and your wallet addy is the key to proof of ownership (like most NFTs aren't images stored on chain).

Can wallets be trusted?
It’s a desktop wallet (for computers and laptops) called dagchat. It is a first of its kind - it comes with a system for sending messages/memos with your banano! I made a post about it a little while back so check that out on my profile - also here’s a link to more up-to-date information (and images) on the github page.
