After you're done with the high level concepts I'd suggest digging into some demoscene material - Ye old pirates of the Demoscene gave rise to SIGGRAPH... Many high performance tricks and tips are shared amongst the scene. A lot of it is oldschool knowledge, but there's a lot of demos for new stuff platforms today. Hell, there's even JS demos using WebGL.
