Have a look at this Apache role by Jeff Geerling (he's an awesome Ansible resource, btw) https://github.com/geerlingguy/ansible-role-apache Check out the tasks and vars folders and you can see that the main.yml will use the files it needs depending on which OS Ansible has found whilst running.

I’ve never heard of the author before so I poked around their GitHub to understand if this is significant. Their account has many repos of Ansible roles, some with hundreds of stars like https://github.com/geerlingguy/ansible-role-mysql

Also be aware that you are definitely not the first person using ansible to install MySQL. There should be many ansible roles available on the Internet already. Out of my head I can think of Jeff Geerling's one. Why re-invent the wheel?
