What is the best way to pass another model instance back from a separate controller?
Might be overkill for your situation but I generally use https://github.com/rails-api/active_model_serializers for my projects. Otherwise just build the hash you are sending back to the frontend with standard code.

I recommend finding some friend with modern experience or at least some youtube tutorials or at least some learning course. That would help you to catch up on the best way to bootstrap your first project. Then you can practice.
