What's a really niche tool you use that you can't live without?
I made BackDrop to solve this. If I have, for example, two folders and two drives, and one folder fits on each drive, I don't want to fill one drive and then spill over to the second drive if it means splitting one folder between two drives. I want the cleanest way possible to copy data to as few drives as possible without splitting folders if they don't need to be.

Is there software for automating swapping data between mostly full disks?
Just leaving this here in case it could be of some use. https://github.com/TechGeek01/BackDrop

Differential backups when 2 drives cannot be directly compared/synced
I wrote BackDrop a while back. While this was originally because I was looking for a way to backup to external drives where the data being backed up was larger than the drives, and required splitting between more than one drive, it's evolved since.
- I updated BackDrop to support arbitrary folders instead of just drive letters!
- The backup tool I wrote now supports Linux, and selecting multiple sources. Thought you guys might find it useful!

Various backup methods?
For manual copies, TeraCopy is awesome, cause you can have it verify files for you. I did actually write my own tool, though that was mostly so that I didn't have to think about handling not all files fitting on one drive (5-6TB of stuff, and a mix of 2-4TB drives). It may or may not suit you, but feel free to give it a look if you're interested. Currently it was designed to back up folders on a network share to a bunch of local drives, so unfortunately, it won't show local drives for source selection (though I'm working on making it able to do that).

Is it worth it to convert my media library?
I have been using MP4 automator for over 5 years; https://github.com/mdhiggins/sickbeard_mp4_automator . I choose MP4 as it works on preety much any device i have ever tryied, H264, AAC stereo and AC3 5.1. Have also used Tdarr for H265 conversion; it really uses 35-50% less space for same quality (4k and I wasnt able to see difference).
-
Which Radarr repository do you use?
They do extended versions of some existing containers that add extra stuff. I use sabnzbd-extended for the SMA support.
-
need some advice on media managers
SMA, Automatically converts media files to a standardized format, and tags them with the appropriate metadata from TMDB if the container supports tagging. Made to integrate with Radarr, Sonarr, etc. but can be run stand alone. Python required (3+, although 2.7 was still supported, last I knew). Free. https://github.com/mdhiggins/sickbeard_mp4_automator

What's a really niche tool you use that you can't live without?
Sickbeard mp4 Automator for media conversation and metadata matching. Combined with mediaelch for bulk renaming and poster downloads, they’re essential for plex hosting. Also use subler for quick metadata/language code fixes.
- Is there a way to force Jellyfin to remux all MKV to MP4?

Add transcoding to my Setup
You can use something like the following to automate the transcoding: https://github.com/mdhiggins/sickbeard_mp4_automator
- Recently found out about Tdarr and it has saved me so much space so far! Also, now I get to directly stream my media over Plex, without any transcoding needed! Highly recommend it!

Synology radarr & sonarr-SMA docker close but not quite there
Going back to https://github.com/mdhiggins/sickbeard_mp4_automator, I was following the steps for sonarr/radarr and went to add a connection (custom script). Browsed to /usr/local/sma/postSonarr.py and clicked the test button, and I got an error that the script exited with -1. I am wondering if it has something to do with this weird instruction from the github page:
- Automatic encoding after download complete
- M1 Mac mini as Headless server or wait for M2 mac mini with this use case
