Write.as is just one of the many Write Freely instances. Any of the Write Freely or Plume instances will do. Well, not any, try to pick one that has been up for a longer period and is unlikely to go down. I'd try one from a Librehoster like Tedomum. These are federated, meaning it doesn't really matter which instance you pick, in terms of how many people are going to discover your blog.

If you want to use something nice and simple, Bludit is a good option. I am considering to use it for my next projects. It is one of the easiest to install and does not use any resourses, does not need a database either. Just upload the files and fill the setup form and you are done: https://github.com/bludit/bludit
