Is there a way to use DS4windows with a xbox controller (pc) without having to use reWASD (because it isn't free)
You can use emulators for DS4 virtual controllers like this russian DualShock4 emulation or famous ViGEm one. I was testing it this way, but reWASD is much more powerful and user friendly. I ended with three licenses already.

TLOU Part 1 (PC) Controller Not Working Properly
I found the solution yesterday. Go to this link: https://github.com/r57zone/DualShock4-emulator/releases/tag/2.0.1 You download "ViGEmBus_1.18.367_x64_x86.exe" and run it. Then download "DS4Emulator.2.0.1.Portable.zip" from the same link. Don't open the program just yet. You start the game, with the controller connected, alt tab and run DS4Emulator.exe. It should fix the problem immediately!
